Ms. Kaufman’s Writing For Purpose I and II classes just finished a multimedia Six-Word Memoir project. In the spirit of Ernest Hemingway, who was once challenged to write his life story using only six words, our students wrote about moments of their own lives following these same strict guidelines. Students were asked to immerse themselves in the Six-Word Memoir genre, reading as many six-word memoirs as possible in order to analyze and then emulate this genre. Mindful of employing strong word choice, effective punctuation, and clarity of voice, students generated their own memoirs. They peer-edited and then revised their work, studied how sound and visuals could enhance their message, and put it all together using picnik.com. Finally, we discussed the merits of publishing work. We are happy to share our memoirs with you and hope you enjoy!
